Carol Rissman Ceramics

“I have always been experimenting with the next form or surface; taking risks, failing, succeeding.”

Form | Color | Texture | Line

I work with slabs and coils. Some pieces emphasize form, and I use a restrained surface to enhance it. Other pieces act as a canvas for painting, carving, and monoprinting with stains and glazes.

Meet the Artist

Carol Rissman

I do a lot of experimentation, moving from inspiration to inspiration.  Much of what I find beautiful are patterns and textures in nature. But the appealing line of African barkcloth decoration, or the color and complexity of quilts, can also send me down a road. My pleasure is in taking the risk, combining inspiration and the material properties of clay. You never know where you’ll end up.
